SCHOOL INFORMATION GUIDE

 

 

SCHOOL HOURS: The starting time for all Mulvey students is 9:09 a.m.  Students are to enter the building and proceed directly to their classrooms.  If your child is a walker, please be certain that they arrive no earlier than 9:05 a.m. as there is no outdoor supervision until that time.  If your child is driven to school, please drop them off on East Sycamore Street which is located on the South side of the building.  Please do not park or pull up in front of the building.  This area is for buses only.  Bus students should refer to their bus pass for appropriate pick-up and drop-off times and locations. If the bus is late or does not arrive, please call the main office at 631-348-5059.

Dismissal begins at 3:02 p.m.  When picking up your child, please remember to park legally. For the safety of children, please do not double park on East Sycamore Street. Your child will be walked out of the building by their teacher. Please instruct anyone picking up your child to wait at the gates to assist us in providing a safe and orderly dismissal.

Walker Arrival & Dismissal Locations:

        Kindergarten & First Graders:  Use the doors closest to the playground on              East Sycamore Street. 

        Second & Third Graders:  Use the School’s Main Entrance. 

        Fourth, Fifth & Sixth Graders: Use the South Entrance on Boulevard Avenue. 

 

EARLY PICK-UP:You will need to be 18 years of age and provide a valid photo ID when picking up your child.  Should you send someone to pick up your child their name must appear on the emergency card.  Please let the office know, no later than 2:00 p.m., if you are making alternate dismissal plans.  Please try to avoid signing your child out early.  Your child should only be signed out for emergencies or doctor appointments only.  NO CHILD WILL BE RELEASED AFTER 2:45 p.m. WITHOUT PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS.  IF YOU ARRIVE AFTER 2:45 p.m. YOUR CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED AT THE REGULAR TIME UTILIZING THEIR STANDARD METHOD OF DISMISSAL.

 

ATTENDANCE:Daily attendance will be recorded for in person and virtual learning days.  If your child is absent, an excuse note must be given to the teacher upon his/her return to school.  If your child is late to school, you must enter the building with your child and sign them in.  Trimester awards will be given to students with 100% attendance. 

 

 ABSENTEEISM: Excuses for absences are required by law and must accompany the child when he/she returns to school.State-approved excuses are illness, religious holidays and family emergencies.If your child’s absence is for another reason, please call or send a note explaining that reason. The excuse note should state the reason for the absence and the date or dates of the absence.To be approved, the note should be sent with the child when the child first returns to school.

 

 If your child is expected to be absent for three or more days, please call the school at (631) 348-5059.

 

In the event your child has been absent from school because of a contagious infection, you must obtain a written medical clearance from the doctor before the child can return to school.

 

BREAKFAST & LUNCH IN THE CLASSROOM:All students will receive a free and nutritious breakfast upon arriving to homeroom.  Homeroom is considered the first 15 minutes of the school day.  Your child must be in attendance during homeroom to receive breakfast.  Lunch will also be served in the classroom.Your child will be sent home with grab and go meals for the following virtual instruction day.

SCHOOL RULES: Students are not permitted to wear hats, use cell phones or have any potentially dangerous weapons in school.  Please refer to the student code of conduct located in the District’s School Calendar for specifics related to appropriate student conduct as well as disciplinary actions.

        We have a zero tolerance policy for physical violence or cyber bullying.  The first offense results in 5 days of in-school detention and a letter of notification to the parent. The second offense will result in an out-of-school suspension. 

TRANSPORTATION: **MASKS MUST BE WORN ON THE BUS** Children will sit one to a seat or in the same seat with members of their household.Transportation to and from your child’s school is the responsibility of the Suffolk Transportation Bus Company.If the bus is late or does not arrive, please call our main office at (631) 348-5059 so we may address the issue. If you require a change of address or you have a babysitter request, this information was due to the district by August 14th. Any change submitted after August 14th will not take place until the third week of school. Therefore, you will need to provide transportation for your child until the changes take effect. Please be reminded that in order to request transportation to a babysitter, the babysitter must be located in the elementary home school area.

 

BUS DISCIPLINE REPORTS: Suffolk Transportation submits bus referrals to the main office when a situation occurs on the bus that could endanger the safety of others. Once a bus referral is received in the office, the children specified in the incident will report to the office for a conference with the principal.  Progressive discipline will be followed.  First offense is an individual conference/warning. The parents will be contacted with written notification.  The second offense will result in a discipline conference, lunch detention and a phone call to the parent indicating that should there be a third offense, the child will be suspended from transportation services for the period of one week.
